Dr. Pelin Cengiz, MD is a pediatric intensivist at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, WI, USA. She earned her medical degree from Marmara University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkiye and completed residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She received her Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship training at Seattle Children’s Hospital, WA, USA. She is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Her recent studies have demonstrated a female bias in neuroprotection following neonatal hypoxia ischemia (HI) in mice, and have clearly implicated tyrosine kinase B (TrkB) and estrogen receptor alpha (ERin conferring this sex-specific neuroprotective mechanism. She is recently working on determining the cellular and molecular mechanisms through which ER may augment neuroprotection and enhance recovery from neonatal HI.
